Karbook, March 15: Emphasizing the importance of education in empowering tribal communities, Tribal Welfare Minister Bikas Debbarma said that strengthening educational opportunities for girls in remote hill regions remains a top priority for the state government.

Addressing a special event in Karbook subdivision, the minister noted that many daughters from tribal families often miss out on higher education due to the lack of proper accommodation facilities near educational institutions. According to him, the absence of safe and accessible hostels forces many students from remote villages to discontinue their studies after completing basic schooling.

To address this challenge, the government has inaugurated a 50-seat Tribal Girls’ Hostel attached to Vidya Jyoti Silachari Higher Secondary School. The new hostel is expected to provide safe accommodation to girls coming from distant tribal villages, enabling them to continue their education without disruption.

During the same programme, the foundation stone for another 50-seat Scheduled Tribe (ST) Girls’ Hostel linked to Karbook Panjihum Higher Secondary School was also laid virtually.

Minister Debbarma highlighted that education plays a key role in building a confident and self-reliant society. “Our aim is to ensure that tribal girls can pursue their studies in a safe and supportive environment. No student should have to abandon her education due to a lack of basic facilities,” he said.

He further added that the state government is continuously working to expand and strengthen educational infrastructure across tribal-dominated areas. The focus, he said, is to ensure that girls from remote hill regions receive equal opportunities to achieve their aspirations.

The initiative is being seen as a significant step toward bridging the gap in higher education accessibility for tribal communities and empowering young women from far-flung regions to pursue their academic goals and build a better future.
