Agartala, March 20: The opposition CPI(M) stepped up its campaign for the upcoming ADC elections as its candidates filed nomination papers for three constituencies on Friday, accompanied by large processions of party workers and supporters.

In Amarpur subdivision, CPI(M)-backed candidates Prithviraj Koloi for the 21 Maharani–Chelagang constituency and Haradhan Jamatia for the 23 Ampi constituency formally submitted their nominations before the respective Returning Officers. The filing of nominations was preceded by a show of strength, with hundreds of supporters gathering from early morning at the party office in North Bazar, Amarpur.

A rally was later organised under the leadership of the two candidates, which passed through key areas of Amarpur town, including the bustling Amarpur Bazar, and circled the iconic Amarsagar Lake before culminating at the office of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate. The procession reflected the party’s attempt to mobilise grassroots support ahead of the polls.

Prithviraj Koloi was the first to file his nomination before Returning Officer and Sub-Divisional Magistrate Anupam Chakraborty. Soon after, Haradhan Jamatia submitted his papers to Returning Officer and Assistant Sub-Divisional Magistrate Pritam Sarkar.

Addressing the media following the nomination process, both candidates appealed to voters to extend their support to Left Front nominees in the forthcoming elections. They highlighted key campaign themes, including the restoration of democratic functioning within the ADC, empowerment of local governance institutions, and fostering unity between tribal and non-tribal communities.

Several senior party leaders were present to extend support during the nomination filing. Among them were Gomati district committee secretary Parimal Debnath, Amarpur subdivision committee secretary Prahlad Pal, and veteran leader Joygobinda Debroy, along with other local leaders and workers.

Meanwhile, in Karbook subdivision, CPI(M)-nominated candidate Magendra Reang for the 25 Nutanbazar–Malbasa constituency also filed his nomination before the Returning Officer and Sub-Divisional Magistrate. His nomination further strengthens the party’s presence across constituencies as it intensifies preparations for the crucial ADC elections.
