Santirbazar, March 25: Tensions escalated in Santirbazar on Wednesday as nomination rallies for the upcoming TTAADC elections turned violent, leading to a clash between supporters of the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Tipra Motha Party.

According to reports, the incident unfolded during the submission of nomination papers when a vehicle carrying Tipra Motha supporters allegedly entered the midst of a BJP rally and collided with a motorcycle. Eyewitnesses claimed that the driver of the vehicle appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, which further aggravated the situation.

What began as a minor accident quickly spiraled into a heated confrontation between supporters of the two parties. The situation soon turned violent, with both sides engaging in clashes that left several workers and supporters injured.

The injured were immediately rushed to Santirbazar District Hospital for treatment. While the exact number of injured persons is yet to be officially confirmed, sources indicated that multiple individuals from both sides sustained injuries during the unrest.

In response to the escalating situation, authorities deployed additional security personnel in and around the area to bring the situation under control. Officials later confirmed that order has been restored, though tension continues to linger in the locality as a precautionary presence of security forces remains in place.

The incident has raised serious concerns among political observers and the general public, especially as it comes at a crucial time ahead of the TTAADC elections. Many have expressed apprehension over the possibility of further violence if tensions are not effectively managed.

Later in the day, BJP leaders addressed a press conference, strongly condemning the incident and terming it “shameful and unfortunate.” They alleged that Tipra Motha supporters deliberately delayed their nomination process and intentionally crossed paths with the BJP rally, leading to the confrontation.

BJP representatives also claimed that at least four of their party workers were injured in the clash and accused Tipra Motha of resorting to such tactics out of fear of electoral defeat.
