Dharmanagar, March 26: The situation in Mangalkhali turned tense and volatile on Thursday after angry residents launched a massive protest over the alleged non-arrest of accused persons linked to a March 21 incident.

From the early hours of the morning, large groups of protesters took to the streets, blocking key roads and bringing vehicular movement to a complete halt. The blockade caused significant inconvenience to commuters and disrupted normal life in the area.

As the agitation intensified, the situation quickly spiraled out of control. A section of the agitated crowd reportedly stormed the houses of the accused individuals, indulging in widespread vandalism. Several houses were damaged, and multiple structures were set ablaze, triggering panic among residents. The rapidly spreading flames raised fears of a major disaster.

Acting swiftly, the Tripura Fire Service from Dharmanagar rushed two fire tenders to the spot. After prolonged efforts, firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control, preventing further destruction and possible casualties.

In view of the escalating tension, a heavy deployment of police personnel was made in the area. Senior officials remained present on the ground, closely monitoring the situation and taking steps to restore law and order. Their prompt intervention helped bring the situation under control, although a sense of unease continues to prevail.

Police sources confirmed that an investigation has been initiated, and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend those involved in the violence.

Meanwhile, local residents have issued a warning that if the accused persons are not arrested promptly, they will intensify their agitation in the coming days, raising concerns of further unrest in the region.
