Agartala, March 26: Rajib Bhattacharjee, BJP Tripura Pradesh President and Rajya Sabha MP, on Thursday emphasized the need for coordinated efforts between elected representatives and the administration to eliminate the social evil of child marriage from society.
Addressing the biennial state conference of the West Tripura Zilla Parishad, Bhattacharjee highlighted that public expectations are constantly evolving and no political party can meet all expectations at all times. He stressed the importance of setting clear priorities and working systematically to achieve public welfare goals. “Elected representatives at every level must focus on their priorities, and the administration should support them in delivering effective governance,” he said.
He identified key focus areas for the state, including afforestation, cleanliness drives, rainwater harvesting, and the eradication of child marriage. Referring to national initiatives like Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, he noted that these programmes have significantly raised awareness among the public about environmental conservation and sanitation.
Bhattacharjee also expressed concern over deforestation caused by development projects, stating that compensatory plantation efforts have been inadequate. He urged local representatives to actively promote afforestation drives to enhance the state’s green cover.
On the issue of water conservation, he pointed out the increasing pressure on groundwater resources due to rapid urbanization. He advocated for the integration of rainwater harvesting systems in all new buildings to ensure sustainable water management.
Highlighting child marriage as a serious social challenge, Bhattacharjee asserted that it must be eradicated completely. He called for united efforts from both authorities and public representatives to prevent such practices and build a more progressive and aware society.
