The scrutiny process for the upcoming elections to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) concluded on Thursday, with 181 nomination papers being accepted and five rejected, officials confirmed on Friday.

Secretary to the State Election Commission, Anurag Sen, while briefing the media, stated that a total of 186 candidates had filed nominations for the elections. The overall number of nomination papers submitted stood at 268, indicating that several candidates filed multiple sets of papers as per electoral norms.

Following a detailed scrutiny exercise conducted by Returning Officers across various constituencies, 181 nomination papers were found to be valid. Five nominations were rejected due to discrepancies in documentation and other procedural issues, officials said.

Sen further informed that March 28 has been set as the last date for withdrawal of nominations. After this deadline, the final list of contesting candidates for all 28 constituencies will be officially published by the Commission.

According to election authorities, major political parties have fielded candidates in most constituencies, setting the stage for a competitive electoral contest. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Tipra Motha have submitted nominations for all 28 seats each. The Left Front has fielded candidates in 25 constituencies, while the Indian National Congress has put forward candidates in 27 seats. The Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) has fielded candidates in 24 constituencies.

Responding to media queries, Sen said that no major complaints regarding violations of the Model Code of Conduct have been reported so far. He added that the Commission remains vigilant and is addressing any concerns raised in a timely manner.

Meanwhile, as per the final electoral roll, a total of 9,62,697 voters are eligible to cast their votes across the 28 ADC constituencies. This includes 4,82,025 male voters, 4,80,666 female voters, and six voters belonging to the third gender, reflecting a broad and inclusive electorate for the upcoming polls.
