As the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections approach, political realignments are gaining momentum, with a fresh wave of defections strengthening the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) campaign in the state. On Wednesday, several leaders, workers, and supporters from Tipra Motha formally joined the BJP at the residence of Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma.

The new entrants expressed their support for BJP’s nominated candidate Billo Jamatia from the 11 Maharani–Teliamura constituency, underscoring the party’s expanding influence in key tribal areas. Welcoming them into the party fold, Minister Debbarma described the development as a sign of increasing public trust in the BJP’s governance model. He said the shift reflects people’s preference for “development-oriented politics, stable leadership, and a vision for a stronger future.”

Highlighting the broader trend, Debbarma noted that the steady stream of leaders and supporters joining the BJP is indicative of changing voter sentiment ahead of the polls. According to him, the growing number of defections points to a consolidation of support in favour of the ruling party. “As the elections draw closer, the momentum is clearly building. The people are making their choice visible through their actions,” he remarked.

Party leaders present at the event reiterated that the BJP’s campaign for the TTAADC elections is centred on tribal welfare, infrastructure development, and long-term stability. They contrasted this approach with what they described as a period of stagnation under previous administrations, asserting that the BJP offers a more proactive and result-driven model of governance.

The daily induction programmes, leaders said, are playing a crucial role in energising the party’s grassroots network and expanding its reach across constituencies. Each new joining is being projected as a reinforcement of the BJP’s electoral prospects and its ability to connect with diverse sections of the tribal population.

With campaigning intensifying, such developments are expected to significantly influence the political landscape in Tripura. The BJP appears determined to leverage this momentum as it pushes for a strong performance in the upcoming TTAADC elections, positioning itself as the preferred choice for development and inclusive growth.
