Agartala, April 7: Tension gripped parts of Teliamura subdivision after a group of miscreants allegedly opened fire targeting vehicles carrying supporters en route to attend Chief Minister’s election rally. The incident occurred near Mereng Bazar, creating panic among locals and those heading toward the सभा.

According to initial reports, at least three rounds of gunshots were fired during the attack. Eyewitnesses claimed that the লক্ষ্য ছিল vehicles transporting supporters travelling to the rally venue at Parakalak Higher Secondary School ground in Duski. The sudden firing caused chaos in the area, forcing several vehicles to halt while people rushed to safety.

Sources indicated that the attackers were reportedly supporters of Tipra Motha, and authorities suspect the incident may have been an attempt to disrupt the Chief Minister’s public meeting. However, an official confirmation regarding the রাজনৈতিক affiliation of the accused is yet to be fully established.

Apart from the firing, the miscreants allegedly snatched a mobile phone from one of the BJP supporters present at the scene, adding to the seriousness of the ঘটনায়. The ঘটনায় has raised concerns over security arrangements ahead of crucial political programmes in the region.

A large contingent of police personnel rushed to the spot immediately after receiving information about the firing. Security was intensified in and around the rally venue to prevent any further untoward incidents and to ensure that the programme proceeded without disruption.

Acting swiftly, the police arrested two individuals in connection with the incident. The accused have been identified as Amit Debbarma from Jirania and Pradip Kumar Debarma from North Pulinpur. Officials stated that an investigation is underway to ascertain the full sequence of events and to determine whether more individuals were involved in the attack.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister’s rally at Duski was conducted amid tight security, with authorities maintaining heightened vigilance throughout the event. The incident has once again brought focus on the need for strict law enforcement during the ongoing election period in Tripura.
