• Police Launch Probe Into Chief Whip’s Convoy Accident

Tripura Legislative Assembly Chief Whip and MLA Kalyani Saha Roy narrowly escaped a major road accident on Monday morning while travelling from Agartala to Teliamura. The incident occurred along the Baramura Hills stretch, a route known for its sharp bends and heavy vehicular movement, triggering concern among local residents and political circles.

According to preliminary reports, the Chief Whip was travelling in a convoy when a speeding Bolero pickup van coming from the opposite direction allegedly lost control and veered toward the convoy. Eyewitnesses claimed that the vehicle appeared to be heading directly toward the convoy, creating a tense situation on the busy roadway.

Thanks to the quick thinking and alertness of the convoy driver, a direct head-on collision was avoided at the last moment. However, despite efforts to maneuver away from danger, the pickup van eventually rammed into the vehicle carrying Kalyani Saha Roy, causing significant impact.

The collision left the driver of the MLA’s vehicle injured. Kalyani Saha Roy reportedly sustained minor injuries, while two of her personal security officers who were travelling in the same vehicle escaped unharmed. The vehicle suffered partial damage due to the impact.

Soon after the accident, police personnel from the Champaknagar Outpost rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. The Bolero pickup van involved in the accident was seized and taken to the police station for further examination. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances that led to the collision and whether negligence or reckless driving was involved.

The incident has once again highlighted safety concerns along the Baramura Hills route, which witnesses frequent accidents due to speeding vehicles, blind curves, and increasing traffic volume. Local residents pointed out that the consequences could have been far more severe had the convoy driver failed to react swiftly.

The accident created a brief atmosphere of tension in the area, drawing attention from passersby and political supporters. Police officials assured that appropriate legal action would be taken against the driver if found responsible for the mishap. Meanwhile, Kalyani Saha Roy is reported to be safe, and her condition remains stable following the incident.
