Agartala, April 27: A total of 5,409 patients underwent successful surgeries in the last three months at Agartala Government Medical College and GBP Hospital, said state health secretary Kiren Gitte on Sunday.

Addressing a press conference, Gitte said that from January 2025 to April 12, 2,425 people underwent surgery in the surgery department, 2,374 people in the orthopedic department, 515 people in the ENT department and 95 people in the neurosurgery department.

He said that 1,638 patients have undergone echocardiography in the last three months. Currently 2 CARM machines are operational in AGMC and GBP Hospitals, he said, adding that presently 9 super specialty departments, 5 broad super specialty and 4 super specialty departments are functional in the 1413 bedded hospital.

Every year 150 students are enrolled in the MBBS course and 89 in the post graduate course in Agartala Government Medical College. He said that in the last financial year, 14,222 patients under Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana and 7,003 patients under Chief Minister Jan Arogya Yojana received medical assistance from this hospital. The facility of this scheme is also available in other hospitals including TMC.

He said that there are total 56 doctors in anesthesiology, ENT, surgery and orthopedic departments of AGMC and GBP hospitals. He also said that a sanction of Rs 13 crore has been received for setting up a Cath lab in this hospital. A proposal of Rs 56 crore has also been sent to the central government for increasing hospital services and purchasing spare parts.

Besides, efforts have been taken to open 1 stroke ward in this hospital. He said that Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha has given priority to the health sector. The Chief Minister also directs to provide necessary assistance to the people who apply for medical assistance in the Chief Minister Samipeshu program on every Wednesday.
