After six days of agonising wait, the mortal remains of intern doctor Saptarshi Das finally returned to Tripura on Monday morning. A few days ago, he and three of his friends lost their lives in a tragic road accident in Uttar Pradesh. Due to complications in air transport, his body could not be flown back earlier, and was ultimately brought home by road.

The fatal accident occurred on Wednesday night in Amroha, Uttar Pradesh, casting a permanent shadow over the lives of four young medical students. Among them was Saptarshi, the only child of his parents from Ramnagar No. 1 Road in Agartala. Their hopes, dreams, and future—all came to a heartbreaking halt in one devastating moment.

For six long days, Saptarshi’s parents endured sleepless nights filled with disbelief, anxiety, and unbearable grief. Every passing day, as efforts to bring the body by air faced repeated obstacles, their hopes dimmed further. At last, when the coffin carrying their beloved son reached their home in Ramnagar, the entire neighbourhood broke down in tears. The mournful silence of the locality was pierced by heart-rending cries.

Saptarshi’s parents had dreamed of seeing their only son complete his medical studies and build a bright future. Instead, destiny delivered a cruel blow. They were not even able to touch their child one last time. Neighbours stood in grief-stricken silence, many unable to hide their tears.

Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, Tripura Pradesh Congress president Ashish Kumar Saha, MLA Sudip Roy Barman, Mayor Dipak Majumder, and other dignitaries paid their last respects. Expressing profound sorrow, the Chief Minister said he had no words to describe the tragedy. He prayed for strength for the bereaved parents and added that every effort was made to bring the body back at the earliest, but aviation-related issues made it impossible. He conveyed his deepest condolences to the family.
