The VIP Road near Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport once again came under scrutiny following a shocking incident of vehicle abduction and robbery on Wednesday afternoon, triggering fresh concerns over passenger safety along the busy stretch.

According to reports, a Sonamura-bound Eco car carrying several passengers was intercepted by a group of unidentified miscreants in the Kathaltali area under the jurisdiction of Airport Police Station. The assailants allegedly forced the vehicle off the main road and drove it to a secluded location. There, they reportedly looted cash and mobile phones from the occupants, brutally assaulted both the passengers and the driver, and vandalized the vehicle before fleeing the scene.

The victims, visibly shaken by the ordeal, later managed to escape and rushed to Airport Police Station along with their family members to lodge a formal complaint. Speaking to the media, they recounted that the attack took place while they were returning after dropping passengers at the airport. They alleged that the gang appeared to have executed the crime in a pre-planned and coordinated manner.

Newly appointed Officer-in-Charge Sushanta Deb assured the victims that the case is being taken seriously and is under his direct supervision. He stated that an investigation has been initiated and expressed confidence that those responsible would soon be identified and brought to justice.

The brazen daylight attack has sparked widespread concern among local residents and frequent travelers. Many have called for enhanced patrolling, installation of surveillance cameras, and stricter security measures along VIP Road, which has repeatedly made headlines for similar criminal incidents in the past.
