Consumers across Tripura are set to face another increase in fuel expenses as prices of compressed natural gas (CNG) and piped natural gas (PNG) have been revised upward once again. The latest increase, announced by Tripura Natural Gas Company Limited (TNGCL), marks the fourth fuel price hike within a span of just ten days and will come into effect from May 27, 2026.

The repeated revision has sparked concern among consumers, transport operators and households already dealing with rising living expenses and increasing prices of essential commodities.

According to the notification issued by TNGCL and undersigned by Manager P. Bhattacharjee, CNG prices have been increased across different districts of the state. In West Tripura district, the price of CNG has been raised from Rs 85.15 per kilogram to Rs 87.15 per kilogram. In Gomati district, the rate has increased from Rs 89.95 to Rs 91.95 per kilogram.

The revised rates also affect domestic PNG consumers. In West Tripura, domestic PNG charges have been increased from Rs 44.41 to Rs 45.88, while users residing in government quarters will now pay Rs 50.43 instead of Rs 49.12. Similar revisions have been made in Gomati district, where domestic PNG rates have increased from Rs 48.53 to Rs 49.99, while government quarters will now be charged Rs 54.99, compared to the earlier Rs 53.53.

Commercial and industrial consumers have also been affected by the latest increase. PNG rates in West Tripura have risen from Rs 56.23 to Rs 57.45, while in Gomati the price has increased from Rs 53.57 to Rs 54.28. The Bodhjungnagar Industrial Growth Centre has also witnessed a price revision.

The latest announcement has generated frustration among consumers, particularly CNG auto drivers, many of whom pointed out that passenger fares have remained unchanged despite recurring fuel price hikes. Residents have also expressed concern that increasing fuel and household expenses are placing additional financial pressure on middle- and lower-income families across the state.
