Agartala, May 15: The Tripura Pradesh Congress has strongly criticized the central government for what it termed a “reckless” and “unconditional” acceptance of a ceasefire with Pakistan. Addressing a press conference at Congress Bhavan in Agartala on Thursday, Congress Working Committee member Sudip Roy Barman expressed serious concerns, calling the move a “betrayal of the unified sentiment of the Indian people.”

“At a time when the entire nation stood united against Pakistan-sponsored terrorism, including all political parties and the Congress, this sudden ceasefire raises uncomfortable questions,” Barman said. He emphasized that India’s armed forces had performed their duties successfully and earned the nation strategic leverage, which the government allegedly surrendered without any clear gains.

Barman questioned the rationale behind accepting a ceasefire while Pakistan remained diplomatically cornered. “The operation began as a fight against terrorism, but ended in trade talks. Terror masterminds like Hafiz Saeed and Masood Azhar are still unharmed. What kind of message is India sending to the world?” he asked.

He also criticized foreign influence on Indian policy, stating, “Since when does Donald Trump get to interfere in India’s foreign policy decisions?”

Raising questions on India’s diplomatic strength, Barman said, “While many countries initially supported us, they remained silent during the border tensions. China and Turkey even openly supported Pakistan. So where does our global standing truly lie?”

In a sharp attack on the BJP’s IT cell, he accused it of circulating fake, AI-generated images on social media to mislead the public. Despite complaints, he claimed, no legal action was taken. “Spreading misinformation like this is dangerous for democracy,” he warned.

Barman demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi provide public accountability on the ceasefire decision and clarify India’s diplomatic and national security stance.
