Agartala, May 20: To further boost tourism in Tripura, the department of tourism on Tuesday signed a lease agreement with the Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) for establishment of a five star category hotel in the historic Pushpabanta Palace here at Agartala Circuit House.
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha accompanied by the state tourism minister Sushanta Chowdhury had signed the agreement with the officials of the IHCL.
Signing the lease agreement, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha claimed that the heritage hotel will further develop the tourism industry in the state. Dr Saha thanked the officials of the IHCL and said that the works on developing heritage hotel in the palace is expected to be completed by the next 2-3 years.
“After we shifted the Governor’s house to a separate location, we have chalked out a plan for proper utilization of the vacant Pushpabanta Palace and accordingly we did MoU with the IHCL and today we officially signed the lease agreement with them,” Dr Saha said.
He further said that the heritage hotel will further boost tourism in Tripura. Foreign tourists will be now able to visit the state and stay in this heritage hotel, which will be readied with 100 rooms and 4 exclusive palace-designed rooms, Dr Saha said, adding that this will also open another arena of job opportunities for the youths of the state.
