Agartala, June 2: Continuous heavy rainfall over the past few days has led to widespread waterlogging in several parts of Tripura, including the state capital, Agartala, and various areas of West Tripura district. As floodwaters rise, many residents have been left stranded in their homes.
Amid this worsening situation, Member of Parliament and former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb took to social media to reassure the people of the state. In his post, Deb stated that he is in constant coordination with the Tripura government and is monitoring the situation closely, particularly the rescue and relief operations underway.
Deb informed that a total of 18 rescue teams have been deployed in flood-hit areas of West Tripura district. These include 3 teams from the SDRF/NDRF, 2 from Assam Rifles, 2 from the Agartala Municipal Corporation, along with personnel from the Fire Services, Scouts and Guides, Civil Volunteers, and NCC Cadets.
More than 1,000 people have already been evacuated from severely affected areas such as Sri Lanka Basti, Baldakhal, Pratapgarh, and Ward No. 21 of Agartala Municipal Corporation (Radhanagar). Additionally, around 1,300 families have taken shelter in 28 government-run relief camps—24 in the Sadar subdivision and 4 in Jirania.
Deb also mentioned that district administrations across Tripura are taking proactive steps based on the evolving situation in their respective areas.
Appealing to the public, Deb urged people not to panic and to stay in touch with their local administration for any assistance. He advised citizens to remain alert and take all necessary precautions to stay safe during this period of extreme weather.
