Agartala, June 28: Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Saturday inaugurated Tripura’s first Cyber Crime Police Station at A.D. Nagar and emphasised the urgent need to reform policing procedures to tackle the rising threat of cybercrime and ensure public safety in the digital age.

Dr Saha noted that cybercrime has become a critical issue, leaving many citizens financially ruined. “Cyber police are effectively fighting a battle against invisible enemies,” said Dr. Saha.

He pointed out the growing difficulty in identifying cybercriminals and underlined the necessity for high-level training for police officers and personnel involved in investigating such cases. The state government has already arranged for officers to undergo specialized training outside the state.

Highlighting the dual nature of technology, the Chief Minister stated that while technology offers immense benefits, it is also being misused by criminals. He warned that cybercriminals are attempting to use Tripura as a corridor for illegal operations, urging the police to respond with awareness and strength.
Dr. Saha appealed to the public to promptly seek police assistance in the event of a cybercrime.

He stressed the importance of reporting such incidents through toll-free helplines 112 and 1930. The Chief Minister further mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is steering the country forward through modern technology, and the Tripura government is committed to aligning with that vision.

He expressed confidence that the new Cyber Crime Police Station would operate with efficiency and win the trust of the public.

Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag, who also spoke at the event, stated that cybercrime is steadily increasing worldwide. Under the Chief Minister’s directives, Tripura Police has focused on modernization, resulting in a 20% decrease in crime rates in 2024 compared to 2023.

DGP Anurag also revealed that cyber security measures have helped recover approximately ₹5.46 crore in the state so far. Of this, ₹32 lakh has already been returned to victims of cybercrime upon completion of legal procedures.

Also present at the event were Home Department Secretary Abhishek Singh, ADGP M. Rajamurugan, G.S. Rao, and other senior police officials.
