Jolaibari, July 12 – A troubling case of disappearance has surfaced from the Ramrai Bari area under Tripura’s Jolaibari Assembly Constituency, involving Ria Debnath and her two-year-old daughter. The incident has sparked concern over both their safety and the response of local authorities.
According to family members, Ria Debnath, wife of Ranjit Debnath, arrived at her parental home in Ward No. 6, West Jolaibari on Monday with her young daughter. Shortly after reaching the residence, she reportedly went missing under mysterious circumstances. Despite frantic searches by relatives, no information about her whereabouts emerged.
On Tuesday, Ria’s mother, Pratima Debnath, accompanied by Ranjit Debnath, filed a missing persons report at the Jolaibari police outpost. However, the family alleges that police response has been indifferent. During a follow-up visit, officers reportedly told them that Ria was located in Karimganj, Assam, and asked the family to pursue the search there independently.
Frustrated by what they describe as police inaction and lack of support, the family approached the media on Friday to raise public awareness and pressure authorities into taking urgent action. “We just want Ria and her child to return safely,” said a family member. “But the way we are being asked to look for her on our own is extremely disheartening.”
The disappearance has sparked concern in the local community, with many questioning the police’s role in tracking down missing persons and ensuring the safety of vulnerable individuals.
As public attention grows, focus now turns to what steps Tripura Police will take to trace the missing mother and child, and whether concerns about negligence in the investigation will be addressed in a transparent and timely manner.
