Agartala, July 11: To ensure efficiency and transparency for consumers, the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Ltd. (TSECL) has set a target of installing at least 6 lakhs smart meters across the state by 2027.

Addressing the media on Friday, TSECL Managing Director Biswajit Basu informed that 88,748 smart meters have been installed across various locations in Tripura as of now. This is part of our larger goal to transform the power sector under the Centre’s Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme and projects funded by the Asian Development Bank, he told reporters.

Explaining the benefits of the smart meters, he said the devices are equipped with advanced communication technology that enables automated and remote reading of electricity consumption.

Basu also pointed out that the installation process has already begun in residences and government quarters of ministers, MLAs, and top bureaucrats to lead the transition by example. “This initiative is a top-down approach aimed at building public confidence in the technology and fostering acceptance across all user categories,” he added.
