Agartala, July 13: Aiming to develop spiritual tourism in the state of Tripura, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Sunday laid foundation stone for 51 Shaktipeeth Park project at Bonduar, near the sacred Matabari temple in Udaipur.
The park will be developed as a world-class spiritual tourism destination, attracting devotees and tourists from across India and abroad, said Chief Minister Dr Saha. He said, “This is a historic day for the people of Tripura. Once completed, the park will serve as a confluence of faith, culture, and heritage.”
The proposed park will feature life-sized replicas of all 51 Shaktipeeths, allowing devotees to experience the essence of these revered shrines in one location. The project will be implemented by the Tripura Tourism Department at an estimated cost of ₹97.70 crore.
Chief Minister Dr Saha credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his vision and guidance behind the project, stating, “It is not possible for every person to visit all 51 Shaktipeeths in a lifetime, but now that opportunity will be available right here in Bonduar.”
Highlighting the broader benefits, the Chief Minister said that the park will significantly boost Tripura’s tourism industry, generate employment—both direct and indirect—and enhance the state’s GDP. It will also provide a market for local handicrafts and traditional art, benefiting local artisans, he added.
He said, “The park will also house India’s largest statue of Nataraj, and showcase the diverse culture and traditions of Tripura’s tribal and non-tribal communities.” Dr Saha stated that Tripura is now fully prepared to welcome tourists on a large scale.
The Chief Minister noted that development remains the top priority of the state government. “Between January and July this year alone, projects worth ₹674 crore have been launched across sectors including education, healthcare, rural development, drinking water, and infrastructure,” he claimed.
He also highlighted the role of over 56,000 self-help groups in empowering women economically across the state, creating pathways for self-reliance and employment.
The state government is also focusing on eco-tourism, with infrastructure development underway at Roa, Trishna, and Sepahijala wildlife sanctuaries. Tourist-friendly accommodations have already been developed at Tepania Eco Park, Narkelkunj, and Chabimura. Additionally, under the Swadesh Darshan scheme, 51 new log huts will be constructed across key destinations in the state.
