Agartala: July 16: Tipra Motha Party founder and Takarjala MDC, Pradyot Kishore Debbarman, on Wednesday raised serious concerns over alleged illegal land allotment to a Bangladeshi national within a protected tribal area in Tripura. Sharing documents on social media, Debbarman claimed that a person named Dilu Mia, a resident of Bangladesh, was granted settlement rights inside the Sixth Schedule area under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).

According to the documents, Dilu Mia, son of Badshah Miah, was allotted 0.22 acres of land in Khupilang Mouza, under Killa revenue circle in Udaipur subdivision of Gomati district. The land lies within the jurisdiction of the TTAADC, which is designated for the welfare of tribal communities. Significantly, the individual is not a Scheduled Tribe (ST) member and had provided a Bangladeshi address during the allotment process, raising constitutional and legal red flags.

Debbarman condemned the silence over the issue, stating, “This would have triggered national outrage if it had happened in mainland India. But because it’s in the Northeast, there is an eerie silence.”

He warned that such documents could potentially help foreign nationals illegally obtain Indian identity cards and citizenship benefits. Debbarman also alleged that the individual and his family went missing after acquiring the land papers, hinting at a deliberate misuse of the system.

He demanded accountability from the administration, questioning how such a land allotment could be processed without the knowledge of senior officials. Debbarman called for an investigation by the Election Commission of India (ECI), claiming the involvement of the then Deputy Collector, Revenue Officer, and Tehsildar.

He thanked Purna Chandra Jamatia, CEM of TTAADC, for exposing the issue and providing necessary documents, calling him a “Tiprasa warrior.”
