Agartala, July 18: The recent tragic suicide of Jakim Marak, a Class 10 student, inside his hostel has left the entire community in deep shock.
In an effort to understand the underlying causes of this incident, a team of officials including tribal welfare minister Bikash Debbarma MDC Bidyut Debbarma, and representatives from the Tribal Welfare Department visited the ST Boys Hostel at 82 Miles in Nalcutta area of Dhalai district on Friday.
“We held an extensive discussion with the hostel authorities and teachers to uncover the circumstances leading up to the boy’s death. This tragic incident has shaken us all, and we are determined to ensure that such events are not repeated,” said minister Bikash Debbarma.
He said, “I appeal to all parents, teachers, and members of society to pay greater attention to the mental health of our children. Let us ensure that no child feels abandoned, neglected, or overwhelmed by pressures or harmful influences like substance abuse.”
The minister also visited the 82 Miles Girls Hostel and the 82 English Medium Residential School. Several issues concerning infrastructure and student well-being were identified, and I have directed officials to take prompt action to resolve them, he said.
