Agartala, July 23: The state agriculture and farmers welfare minister Ratan Lal Nath on Wednesday launched a Mega Oil Palm Plantation Drive at Raiya Bari in the Udaipur Killa Assembly constituency.
During the event, the minister urged the local farmers to actively participate in oil palm cultivation, which is being promoted as a significant step towards making India self-reliant in edible oil production.
Minister said that the National Mission on Edible Oils – Oil Palm (NMEO-OP), a central government initiative, was launched in 2021 with the goal of boosting domestic edible oil production. Although the project commenced in Tripura during the 2022–23 fiscal year, it is now progressing at a commendable pace.
Speaking at the event, officials and dignitaries encouraged farmers to embrace oil palm cultivation in “mission mode,” highlighting it as a pathway to financial empowerment and sustainable agricultural growth. Farmers were reassured of the government’s continued support and the long-term economic benefits of the crop.
As part of the program, high-quality agricultural equipment was distributed among farmers to enhance productivity. In addition, a vehicle was handed over to a local Farmer Producer Company (FPC) group to facilitate the transportation, marketing, and export of agricultural produce—helping bridge the gap between production and market access.
The drive has generated enthusiasm among local farmers, who see this as a promising opportunity to improve their livelihoods and contribute to the state’s agrarian economy.
