Agartala, July 23:A delegation of the Tipra Motha Party, led by its founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, met officials of the Election Commission of India (ECI) in New Delhi on Wednesday, urging the immediate implementation of a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Tripura.
The meeting took place in the wake of growing concerns over illegal migration in Tripura and the broader northeast region. The Tipra Motha delegation highlighted the urgent need to identify and remove illegal voters, stating that their unchecked presence threatens the demographic balance and the future of the indigenous population.
In a social media post after the meeting, Pradyot Kishore Debbarma wrote, “Illegal migration is affecting our state and the entire northeast. If we don’t identify illegal voters today, there will be no tomorrow for our next generation.”
He further added that the Election Commission has responded positively to their concerns and assured the delegation that a Special Intensive Revision will be carried out nationwide, including in Tripura.
The delegation included Minister Animesh Debbarma, TTAADC Chief Executive Member Purna Chandra Jamatia, MLA Ranjit Debbarma, and other senior party leaders. They met with Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and Election Commissioners Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr. Vivek Joshi to present their case.
The Tipra Motha Party has consistently maintained that protecting the rights and future of Tripura’s indigenous communities remains its top priority. The party’s demand for an SIR aligns with its broader political stance on preserving demographic integrity and pushing for the implementation of the Tiprasa Accord.
Wednesday’s meeting marks a significant step in the party’s ongoing efforts to bring electoral and constitutional safeguards to Tripura’s indigenous people.
