Agartala, Aug 13: The Central Government has approved additional funds to expedite the completion of the Lighthouse Project near the Akhaura border, following the request of Member of Parliament Biplab Kumar Deb. The remaining construction work is expected to resume shortly.

On July 24, during a meeting in New Delhi with Union Minister for Housing, Urban Affairs and Power, Manohar Lal Khattar, Deb highlighted the major hurdles that had stalled the project and urged for its early completion.

The Lighthouse Project in Tripura — the first of its kind in the Northeast and one of only six in the country — was launched during Deb’s tenure as Chief Minister. Initially, the work progressed at a steady pace, but later slowed down due to issues related to land and other associated factors, preventing completion within the stipulated time. Once finished, the project will provide housing for 1,000 families.

During his meeting with the Union Minister, Deb not only discussed the core issues delaying the project but also pressed for additional funding to ensure its early completion. The Centre’s approval of the funds has now paved the way for the construction work to restart soon.
