Agartala, August 18: The Tripura government is undertaking various initiatives to enhance the socio-economic status of women and make them self-reliant, said Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Tinku Roy on Monday.
Inaugurating a sewing machine distribution programme at Muktadhara Auditorium, the Minister said women must also be mentally prepared to become self-dependent. “There must be determination to stand on one’s own feet. The state government is always by the side of women,” he asserted.
The event was organised by the Tripura State Commission for Women in collaboration with Tripura Natural Gas Company Limited (TNGCL).
Highlighting the government’s efforts, the Minister said self-help groups are being promoted across the state to empower women economically. Referring to women’s leadership in different sectors across the state and country, he expressed hope that Tripura’s women will also emerge as role models of self-reliance in the future.
During the programme, sewing machines were distributed to 120 women from different parts of the state as part of the empowerment initiative. “This step has been taken to ensure women achieve financial independence,” Roy stated.
Among others present at the event were State Women’s Commission Chairperson Jharna Debbarma, Vice-Chairperson Madhumita Choudhury, and TNGCL Managing Director Praloy Patra.
