Agartala, Aug 21 — Tripura Governor Indra Sena Reddy Mallu has begun a two-day visit to South Tripura district to interact with people living along the international border and understand their day-to-day struggles.

On Thursday morning, the Governor reached Matai Gram Panchayat and attended an interactive session at East Rajnagar High School, where he directly engaged with farmers, workers, betel leaf cultivators, and local residents. He listened to their concerns ranging from agriculture to livelihood challenges in border areas.

Addressing the gathering, Governor Mallu stressed the importance of strengthening the rural economy through increased local production and better marketing. He encouraged farmers to explore e-marketing platforms that could help them secure higher returns for their produce.

The Governor was briefed on the extensive betel leaf cultivation in the Rishyamukh region, where cultivators face multiple hurdles in production and marketing. Assuring support, he said the government would take effective steps to encourage betel leaf farming and provide necessary assistance to growers.

Water management in agriculture also came up as a key focus during his visit. Citing successful examples from Karnataka and other southern states, Mallu highlighted the use of water-conserving machines and techniques that could be replicated in Tripura. He underlined that such initiatives are essential for improving crop yield and long-term sustainability in the state’s agricultural sector.

By the end of the session, the Governor reiterated his commitment to addressing the challenges of border residents and emphasized the role of innovation and modern practices in uplifting the rural economy of Tripura.
