Agartala, Sep 24: Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Wednesday strongly denounced the attack on a journalist and BJP leaders during a clash in Hejamara on September 21, asserting that “no alliance partner is above the law.”

The Chief Minister visited GB Pant Hospital to meet the injured, where he condemned the violence allegedly carried out by Tipra Motha supporters during a BJP clothes distribution programme under Shimna Mandal.

Among those injured was senior journalist Kamal Krishna Jamatia, who was covering the event without any political involvement. BJP Janajati Morcha vice president Mangal Debbarma also sustained serious head injuries after being attacked.

“Violence has no place in democracy,” Dr. Saha said, stressing that political rivalries should never cross into assaults on individuals or journalists.

He further hinted at a larger conspiracy behind the incident, pointing out that it took place just days before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the state and was followed by the torching of a BJP Mandal office.

Reiterating that the law will act impartially, Dr. Saha said, “Political partnerships cannot shield anyone from accountability. Law will take its own course.”
