Agartala, May 23: The state agriculture and farmers welfare minister Ratan Lal Nath on Friday inaugurate a new tea leaf sale centre at Durgabari Tea garden and said that the government is working with utmost care for the tea workers of the state.
Addressing the inauguration programme, the minister claimed that at least 3339 tea workers and family were provided with houses. The government has also ensured free ration and free cooking gas connection for the tea workers of the state, he added.
The minister further said that various projects are being implemented with the joint efforts of the central and state governments for the welfare of the last person of the society.
He said, “India is the second largest country in the world in terms of tea production and Tripura is also moving ahead with highest tea production. At least 10,438 tea workers, who are engaged to 53 tea garden in the state are receiving government benefit presently.”
“As of now 3339 tea worker and family received houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana,” Nath said, adding that the government is committed to work for the welfare of the tea workers.
Meanwhile, speaking at the event, the state cooperative minister Sukla Charan Noati said that the role of cooperatives in building a developed India is immense. In the present times, drinking tea has become popular among the tribals, he said, adding that the tribals of the state should be more involved in the development of the tea industry. He said, the current government is working on the best possible plan to meet the needs of the people.
