Agartala, April 28: A giant number of indigenous youths under the banner of Youth Tipra Federation (YTF) backed by the TIPRA Motha on Monday staged a protest rally along the bordering town of Belonia to voice against the illegal construction of embankment by the neighbouring country of Bangladesh.
The construction of the embankment along the border in Belonia in South Tripura and another in Kailasahar in Unakoti district of the state has raised a serious concern. The Tripura government has already taken up the matter with the Centre for further course of action.
Carrying the Indian tri-colour, the indigenous youths attempted to reach the embankment construction site along the border, but the BSF jawans stooped them on their way citing the risk of escalated tension in border.
Showing support to the protest rally, TIPRA Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Deb Burman took to X and stated, “Today at Belonia , Tripura thousands of our Warriors were stopped by the BSF otherwise the illegal construction by Bangladesh would have been demolished. These are the youth of our Tiprasa all we need is a green signal , rest we will handle !”
After a round of negotiations, security officials later allowed the representatives of YTF including the state president Suraj Debbarma and TTAADC South Zone Chairman David Murasing to visit the border area, where they inspected the embankment construction by Bangladesh.
YTF state president Suraj Debbarma accused the Bangladesh government over construction of the embankment and said that the Bangladesh has violated the border norms by constructing embankment close to Indian territory. He also questioned the role of the Centre over this.
