Agartala, May 1: In a scathing response to Chief Minister Manik Saha’s recent assertions on transparent recruitment, CPIM state secretary and Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury on Thursday accused the BJP-led government of misleading the public while keeping over 50,000 government posts vacant.
Reacting to Wednesday’s “Offer Mela” event, where 228 TET-qualified teachers received appointment letters, Chaudhury derided the initiative as “sprinkling a few drops of water in a desert.” He argued that the symbolic move does little to address the massive backlog of vacancies across government departments.
While the Chief Minister claimed that 17,554 appointments have been made since 2018 without any legal complications, Chaudhury dismissed the figure as inadequate. He cited official responses from various departments indicating that over 50,000 posts remain unfilled across the state.
The CPIM leader also questioned the credibility of the government’s recruitment process, alleging that individuals from West Bengal had secured Group D jobs in Tripura using fake permanent residence certificates. “If there’s transparency, how are outsiders getting jobs meant for Tripura residents?” he asked.
Citing a viral social media post, Chaudhury pointed to a recent incident where a local Panchayat member was seen in a jail police uniform, despite no public record of her appointment or training. “This shows the recruitment process has become a mockery,” he said.
He further criticized the government’s failure to present comprehensive vacancy data during the recent Assembly session and accused it of favoring select individuals in recruitment, while blaming past Left rule for irregularities without offering evidence.
“Truth cannot be erased by spreading lies,” Chaudhury asserted, challenging the BJP government to substantiate its claims against the Left Front with concrete proof.
His remarks intensify the ongoing debate on recruitment, transparency, and job scarcity in Tripura.
