Agartala: May 14: Tripura has recently experienced frequent disruptions in electricity services, causing significant inconvenience to residents. Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath has stated that these outages are not due to natural causes or technical failures, but are suspected to be deliberate acts carried out by unknown individuals.

The Tripura State Electricity Corporationhas lodged a complaint with the East Agartala Police Station regarding the incidents. Preliminary findings suggest that certain transformers were intentionally damaged, leading to widespread blackouts in various parts of Agartala city on Monday night. According to reports, 21 transformers were affected across multiple locations.

Authorities have identified different methods used in the alleged disruptions, including removal of transformer components and tampering with electrical infrastructure. In some areas, objects were thrown onto power lines, causing short circuits. Engineers and electricity department staff were dispatched to investigate, and they found no technical faults in the main power supply line, reinforcing suspicions of intentional interference.

CCTV footage from Kamarpukur Para reportedly shows an individual approaching a transformer on a scooter and causing a power disruption, leading to an immediate blackout in the area. Officials are currently analyzing additional video evidence, and an FIR has been filed with the police.

The Power Minister has personally reached out to law enforcement agencies, including the Superintendent of Police of West Tripura, and has sought assistance from the IT departmentto aid the investigation. He emphasized that these disruptions appear to be organized efforts potentially aimed at facilitating criminal activities under the cover of darkness.

Despite the challenges, the minister assured that Tripura’s electricity generation and supply remain stable, except in cases of natural weather disturbances or maintenance-related outages. He urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity near electrical infrastructure.

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to maintaining uninterrupted power services and have assured strict legal action against those found responsible. The situation continues to be closely monitored to prevent further disruptions.
