“A total of 709 teachers have been sent on deputation from the School Education Department in the TTAADC area to provide quality education,” Dr Saha said in the assembly in response to a public interest notice brought by MLA Pathanlal Jamatia.

The Chief Minister said that arrangements have been made to provide cooked meals to every upper and lower primary school in the ADC area under the PM-Poshan scheme to provide proper nutrition to the students of the ADC area schools along with their studies and make them interested in coming to school. An average of Rs 5.38 crore is paid to the ADC authorities every year for this, he added.

The Chief Minister said that hostels are being constructed under various projects to increase interest in education among the students of schools belonging to the state government’s education department. Out of 15 hostels belonging to Kasturba Gandhi Girls School, 14 are located in TTAADC area. Similarly, out of 16 hostels in Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Residential School Hostel Scheme, 9 hostels are located in TTAADC area, he said.

The Chief Minister said that the Vidyalaya Chalo campaign is conducted to bring the drop out students to school. To make this campaign successful, Anganwadi workers went door to door and identified the drop out students and admitted them to schools. As a result, the number of drop outs in the state has reduced a lot compared to earlier, he said.

The Chief Minister proposed to form an administrative committee with the joint participation of the ADC administration and the School Education Department for the overall improvement of education in the Autonomous Zilla Parishad area of Tripura.
