Agartala, May 08: Initiative has been taken to urgently repair the Kamalupur-Khowai section of National Highway – 208, said PWD secretary Kiren Gitte on Thursday.

Addressing a press conference here at Agartala on Thursday, the secretary said that PWD and NHIDCL will work on this. A portion of the Kamalpur-Khowai NH-208 was damaged due to the devastating flood took place previous year, he said, adding that the issue also drawn the attention of the Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha.

He said that initially the condition of the road was good, several problems were observed on the 12 km stretch of the road due to heavy rains across the state last year. A team of NHIDCL assessed the situation of the road, while a team of PWD had also visited the place to take stock of the road. The road will be repaired by the next few months and during the repairing work, a single lane of the NH will be kept open.

Presently work is underway on 6 national highways in the state with a total length of 793 km. Out of this 443 km work has been completed, he told reporters.
