Agartala, June 01: The incessant rain, which caused severe flood in the capital town of Agartala along with the rest if the parts of the state, has inundated several low-lying areas of the state. The water level of the major rivers flowing through the city has rose to trigger panic.

The District Magistrate if the West Tripura district Dr Vishal Kumar on Sunday morning visited several flood-prone areas under Bamutia R.D Block to assess the current ground situation and ensure timely response and support to affected residents.

The DM interacted with local officials and community members to take stock of flood preparedness and ongoing relief measures. The administration is closely monitoring the situation and committed to safeguarding lives and property, the DM said.

Upon receiving directions from the SDM Control Room, Jirania, a Quick Response Team (QRT) comprising Scouts and Rovers from the Ranirbazar Scouts and Guides Unit was immediately deployed to Baldakhal in Chandrapur. The team swiftly reached the location and initiated rescue operations to assist residents affected by flooding.

Meanwhile, in a courageous and timely act, an Apada Mitra Volunteer successfully rescued a 25-day-old baby from a flood-affected area in Pratapgarh under West Tripura District.

In response to rising water levels and ongoing heavy rainfall, a shelter house has been opened at Ramthakur Girls School under Ward No. 31 to accommodate affected residents and ensure their safety and well-being. The administration has also opened a Shelter House at Bijoyee Sangha Club, Banamalipur (Ward No. 21) to provide relief and safety to affected families.

Basic amenities, food, and medical support are being extended to all evacuees. Another Shelter House has been opened at Sanghati Sangha near Indranagar under the supervision of the District Administration, West Tripura.

The shelter is equipped to provide temporary relief, food, and basic medical assistance to affected families. District teams and volunteers are actively ensuring the comfort and safety of all evacuees.

The DM said the water level in the Howrah river is flowing at a danger level (10.80 metres), and 5,765 families living on the bank of the river have taken shelter in relief camps.
