Agartala, May 20: Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation and MLA Dipak Majumder asked the street food vendors to ensure health and hygiene while delivering food to the people.
The Agartala Smart City jointly with the National Health Mission (NHM) on Tuesday organised a free health check up and food safety awareness programme here at Agartala Sukanta Academy for the temporary street food vendors.
Mayor Dipak Majumder, Chief Executive Officer of the Agartala Smart City Mission Dr Sailesh Yadav and others were present in the programme.
Addressing the gathering of vendors here in the programme, Mayor Dipak Majumder said that ensuring health and food safety is not just essential but also a responsibility of the vendors, who serve food to thousands of people in the city.
Mayor mentioned that all vending units must be mobile, ensuring smooth pedestrian movement and minimizing traffic congestion.
Vendors were sensitized about government food safety guidelines and regulations. The event also addressed growing public concerns about rampant food adulteration and hygiene violations by some vendors and small eateries. Residents have frequently complained on social media about substandard ingredients, stale food, and the widespread use of harmful oils and spices.
