Agartala, May 12: Over 900 people including 52 children were rendered homeless after heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorm struck the Hezamara Block of Mohanpur subdivision on Sunday.

Reportedly, 40 percent of the area of Hejamara block of Mohanpur subdivision was damaged due to the impact of lightning and thunderstorm. The concerned administration opened at least 4 relief camps Gayamani English Medium J.B. School, Akhaliachara English Medium Higher Secondary School, Chandrichara S.B. School and Shankhla S.B. School in Hejamara block.

At least 991 people from 335 families including 471 men, 468 women and 52 children were displaced and sent to the relief camps. The subdivisional administration has arranged food for them.

On Monday the Minister of State for Industries and Commerce Brishaketu Debbarma, ADC Executive Member Rabindra Debbarma, and administrative officials of Mohanpur subdivision visited the affected areas and relief camps.
