Tripura Minister Directs Officials to Ensure Timely Distribution of Free Food Items

Agartala, Oct 26 : Tripura Food Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Monday directed officials to ensure the timely distribution of free sugar, flour and suji among eligible ration card holders during October and November, emphasising transparency, accountability and effective monitoring of the welfare initiative.

Chowdhury chaired a high-level virtual review meeting at his official residence to assess the implementation of the programme announced under a recent Cabinet decision.

The meeting was attended by the Director of the Food Department, senior departmental officials and Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) from across the state.

During the meeting, officials reviewed the progress of distribution in different subdivisions and discussed operational challenges that could affect the timely delivery of the commodities to beneficiaries.

The minister stressed the need for close coordination between the Food Department and field-level officials to ensure that all eligible ration card holders receive their entitled commodities without inconvenience.

He also called for regular supervision of the distribution process at the subdivision level, underlining the importance of transparency and accountability at every stage of implementation.

Chowdhury said the government's objective was to ensure that the benefits of welfare decisions reached the intended beneficiaries within the stipulated period.

He directed the concerned authorities to identify potential bottlenecks, resolve distribution-related difficulties and take corrective measures wherever necessary to prevent delays in the supply of the commodities.

The meeting also focused on strengthening coordination between the Food Department and subdivision administrations to ensure uniform implementation of the programme across Tripura.

The free distribution of sugar, flour and suji during October and November follows a recent Cabinet decision and is intended to provide additional support to ration card holders during the festive season.

The government has emphasised that eligible households should receive the commodities within the designated period. Officials were asked to remain vigilant and address administrative or logistical difficulties that could disrupt the distribution process.

The minister further urged the authorities to maintain regular oversight to ensure that no eligible beneficiary was deprived of the assistance because of delays or shortcomings in implementation.

The review meeting was part of the state's efforts to assess the progress of the welfare measure, address operational challenges and improve coordination among the officials responsible for its implementation.

The government has stressed timely delivery and transparent distribution to ensure that the benefits of the two-month initiative reach eligible ration card holders across Tripura.
