Agartala, April 29: In two separate crackdowns on illegal cross-border activities, Tripura police arrested three Bangladeshi nationals and one Indian tout from Sonamura and Agartala railway station on Tuesday.

Jakir Hossain, a resident of Dhanpur Bazar area, was apprehended by the Government Railway Police (GRP) at Agartala Railway Station. According to Officer-in-Charge Tapas Das, the arrest followed intelligence obtained from a previously arrested Bangladeshi individual. “He was wanted in connection with the case, and following leads, we arrested him and presented him before the court,” Das stated. Authorities are verifying whether Hossain is linked to other similar cases. Preliminary investigation suggests he provided logistical support to Bangladeshi nationals entering India illegally.

In a separate operation, Jatrapur police and Tripura State Rifles (TSR) personnel conducted a raid in Baidyanath village, a border area under Sonamura subdivision. Acting on a tip-off, the team cordoned off a house where the three Bangladeshi nationals—Mainul Islam, Taijul Islam, and Jahirullah—were found hiding.

OC Subrata Debnath said the accused failed to produce valid documents for their entry into India. During the search of the premises, police also seized two drums filled with cannabis, hinting at possible involvement in narcotics trafficking. The arrested individuals are currently being interrogated, and further investigations are underway to trace their network.

The arrests highlight ongoing challenges at the Indo-Bangla border, particularly concerning illegal infiltration and potential links to organized crime. Authorities have intensified surveillance and coordination among agencies to curb such cross-border activities.
