Agartala, June 2: Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Sunday visited several flood-affected areas in West Tripura district and assured that the state government is fully prepared to tackle the ongoing flood situation.
During his visit to Chandrapur, Pratapgarh, and Baradowali along the banks of the Howrah River in Agartala, Dr. Saha reviewed the condition of affected areas and interacted with residents taking shelter in relief camps. He inspected the overall management of seven such camps and took stock of the arrangements made for flood victims.
“Over the last two days, there has been massive rainfall not only in Tripura but also in Assam and other parts of the Northeast, leading to extensive damage. However, the water level in Agartala has started receding, which shows that our drainage system is working efficiently,” the Chief Minister said.
He informed that 24 relief camps have been set up across affected areas, equipped with proper food supplies and other essential services. Medical teams have been deployed and instructed to ensure hygiene and sanitation in the camps.
“NDRF, SDRF, Apada Mitra volunteers, Tripura Police, Agartala Municipal Corporation staff, government officials, and karyakartas are all working tirelessly on the ground. The administration is fully prepared to respond to any further developments,” Dr. Saha added.
He urged residents in flood-prone areas to move to safer locations and follow safety advisories. Miking announcements are being made across localities, and all water pumps in Agartala are operational to drain out water from waterlogged areas.
The Chief Minister was accompanied by MP Rajib Bhattacharjee, Agartala Mayor Dipak Majumder, Revenue Department Secretary Brijesh Pandey, and West Tripura DM Dr. Vishal Kumar.
