Agartala, May 10: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has assured that all necessary security measures along the India-Bangladesh border are being implemented in coordination with central agencies, following directives from national leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.

Speaking a day after a high-level security review meeting at his residence, CM Saha emphasized the importance of enhanced coordination among security forces. “I told them to ensure proper security arrangements along the border and for better coordination among the forces,” he stated.

Addressing concerns about possible airport closures or additional security measures, the Chief Minister, who also holds the Home portfolio, confirmed that all recommended steps from central authorities are being followed. “Instructions are coming from the Centre about which airports are to be shut and what specific security arrangements are needed. All steps are being followed accordingly,” he said.

Regarding threat perception, Dr. Saha remarked, “Threat may be there, but whether we are ready or not is the question,” underscoring the state’s focus on preparedness and vigilance.

The security meeting, held on Friday, lasted over an hour and included senior officials from the Border Security Force (BSF), Assam Rifles, intelligence agencies, and key civil administration officers. Discussions centered on strengthening surveillance and coordination along Tripura’s 856-kilometre-long border with Bangladesh, parts of which remain unfenced due to local land disputes.

With a nationwide security alert in place, Tripura’s strategic location and border vulnerabilities have kept security agencies on high alert. Officials have indicated that increased patrolling, installation of surveillance equipment, and inter-agency coordination are being prioritized to prevent any cross-border infiltration or security breach.

While no specific threats have been publicly disclosed, the state government’s proactive engagement with security forces reflects a cautious approach amid evolving regional security concerns.
