Kanchanpur, June 10: A special programme on Integrated Growth and Development in Community (IGDC) Project was held at Kanchanpur Dasda town hall. Tribal welfare minister Animesh debbarma has inaugurated the programme and distributed thread materials among at least 400 tribal women at Kanchanpur Dasda under the IGDC Project for making traditional handloom fabric popularly known as ‘Pasra‘.
In the programme the minister also distributed sports kits among 20 youths, and mosquito nets were given to 40 poor tribal families. Two self-help groups were provided financial assistance of Rs 2.6 lakh through cheques. Moreover, two community halls were inaugurated virtually through online mode.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Animesh Debbarma highlighted that the IGDC Project began in 2020 with a budget of Rs 280 crore and will continue until 2028. He mentioned that those involved in the project will earn approximately 15% in income from their participation. He further instructed the Forest Department to plant 6 lakh trees by the end of June.
On the other hand, MLA Philip Kumar Reang emphasized the importance of bamboo, a staple food and resource for the indigenous communities. He mentioned that bamboo-based projects were discontinued during the previous Left regime. However, discussions are now underway with the Minister to revive bamboo projects under the Forest Department, he added.
