Agartala, July 06: Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Sunday paid tribute to the Barrister and former Member of the Constituent Assembly of India Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee on his 125th birth anniversary and announced renaming of the Agartala Town Hall after Shyama Prasad Mukherjee.
Addressing in an event organised here at Agartala, Dr Saha remembered Shyama Prasad and stated that in the post-independence India, Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee stood as a formidable voice in safeguarding the sovereignty of the nation. Despite his unmatched intellect, aristocratic background, and extraordinary capabilities, he chose not a life of comfort but one of relentless struggle for the cause of nation-building. Until his last breath, Dr Mukherjee dedicated himself to the service of the nation, he added.
He said that Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee was India’s first Industry Minister, the youngest Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calcutta, former Mayor of Kolkata Municipal Corporation, President of the Hindu Mahasabha, and the founder of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh.
“On the occasion of his 125th birth anniversary, I offer my heartfelt tributes to this great patriot and announce the renaming of the Town Hall in the state capital after Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, along with the installation of his marble statue to honor his enduring legacy,” he said.
