Agartala, July 06: Tension flared at 9-Banamalipur assembly constituency after the opposition Congress MLA Gopal Chandra Roy on Sunday narrowly escaped a brief attack by a group of miscreants during a party meeting.

The incident took place after a group of unidentified miscreants hurled objects into the congress party gathering at Banamalipur to target the MLA Gopal Chandra Roy.

Alarmed by the incident police of East Agartala Police Station led by the Officer In-Charge Rana Chatterjee rushed to the spot to tackle the tension, which flared up following the incident.

MLA Gopal Chandra Roy labelled the incident as an attack on democracy. He however demanded prompt action by the police against the culprits involved in the incident and sought the intervention of the Chief Minster Dr Manik Saha to accuse the government of deteriorating law and order situation.
