Agartala, Aug 24: Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha has called upon clubs in Greater Agartala to participate in this year’s Durga idol immersion and carnival with enthusiasm and festive spirit, while also maintaining awareness about noise pollution.
The decision was announced today during a preparatory meeting for the immersion and Sharad Samman ceremony held at Muktadhara Auditorium under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister.
Dr. Saha stressed the need to learn from shortcomings of last year’s event and rectify them for a smoother celebration this time. He particularly urged club representatives to remain alert to issues of noise pollution during idol immersion. He also directed the PWD officials to ensure that road repairs across the state are completed before Durga Puja.
Expressing optimism, he said more clubs are expected to participate in the immersion carnival this year.
Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumder, participating in the discussion, informed that last year 608 Durga Pujas were organized in and around Agartala. He attributed people’s ability to celebrate the festival throughout the night to the state’s peaceful law-and-order situation. Majumder expressed confidence that this year too, clubs will conduct Durga Puja in accordance with government guidelines.
Information and Cultural Affairs Secretary Dr. Pradip Kumar Chakraborty noted that 46 clubs took part in last year’s immersion carnival, which was held in front of the Tulsibati Girls’ Hostel, and added that the same venue will be used this year. He also appealed to clubs to remain mindful of noise pollution during festivities.
Among others present at the meeting were West Tripura Zilla Parishad Acting Sabhadhipati Biswajit Shil, Health Secretary Kiran Gitte, IG (Law & Order) A.R. Reddy, Vice-Chairman of the State Cultural Advisory Committee Subrata Chakraborty, and ICA Director Bimbisar Bhattacharjee, who detailed this year’s immersion plans.
