Agartala, March 30: In a major political development ahead of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections, a large-scale joining programme was held on Monday at Khorang Community Hall in Bachaibari, drawing significant attention across the region.

The event was presided over by Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma, who described the массовый defection as a clear indication that people are now rallying behind “change and real development.” According to party sources, as many as 1,112 individuals from 351 families formally left Tipra Motha to join the Bharatiya Janata Party.

The mass induction was organised under the leadership of Tapas Debbarma, who played a key role in mobilising supporters. Addressing the gathering, Minister Debbarma said the development reflects a growing shift in the mindset of the tribal community, moving away from what he termed as “emotional politics” toward aspirations for stability, transparency, and sustained development.

He also launched a sharp attack on former leaders associated with the ADC, accusing them of failing to deliver on promises and instead capitalising on public sentiment. “People have understood who worked and who did not. The time has come to change that trend and embrace genuine development,” he asserted.

Highlighting the party’s roadmap, Debbarma assured that the BJP is committed to forming a strong and stable government in the ADC. He outlined key promises, including pushing for the implementation of the 125th Constitutional Amendment Bill, ensuring 50 reserved seats, and facilitating direct funding mechanisms aimed at accelerating grassroots development.

“Your trust is our strength. Together, we will build a future defined by progress and opportunity,” he said, urging the new members to actively participate in the party’s development agenda.

The event has created considerable political buzz, with observers noting that such a large-scale defection could significantly impact electoral dynamics ahead of the council polls. Analysts believe that shifting loyalties at this scale may influence voter sentiment and reshape the competitive landscape in the run-up to the TTAADC elections.
