Agartala, Sept 27: Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha inaugurated Seva Pakshik – 2025 at Muktadhara Auditorium today, stressing that persons with disabilities are an inseparable part of society and must be given equal rights and opportunities.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister said that with proper care, awareness, and compassion, persons with disabilities can find the path to self-reliance. “Despite physical or mental challenges, they are contributing significantly in various fields and inspiring others,” he noted.
Highlighting the state government’s initiatives for their welfare, Dr. Saha announced that under the Chief Minister’s Scheme for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities, 891 beneficiaries will be provided financial assistance, with a total expenditure of ₹44.55 lakh. The scheme was formally launched today by the Department of Social Welfare & Social Education.
He further stated that under the Social Assistance Scheme, 19,582 persons with disabilities are currently receiving a monthly allowance of ₹2,000 each. Disability Rights Committees have been set up at both the state and district levels, and Tripura now has eight District Disability Rehabilitation Centres (DDRCs). So far, 41,812 Disability Identity Cards have been issued across the state. Pre-matric and post-matric scholarships are also being provided to students with disabilities.
The Chief Minister reiterated that alongside government initiatives, the role of parents and families is equally important in bringing differently-abled individuals into the mainstream through care, love, and awareness. He wished success for the newly launched scheme and reaffirmed his government’s commitment to inclusive development.
Addressing the gathering, MP Rajib Bhattacharjee said that the Central Government has launched Seva Pakshik – 2025 from September 17 to October 2, focusing on public service. He added that Tripura is moving forward with the vision of building a “One Tripura, Best Tripura” with participation from all sections of society.
The event was attended by Social Welfare & Social Education Secretary Tapas Roy, Youth Affairs & Sports Secretary Dr. P.K. Chakraborty, Chairman of Tripura State Co-operative Consumer Federation Ltd. Tuton Das, Director of Social Welfare & Social Education Tapan Kumar Das, and Director of Youth Affairs & Sports L. Darlong, among others.
On the occasion, symbolic approval letters were handed over to selected beneficiaries of the new scheme, while outstanding differently-abled sportspersons were felicitated with mementoes by the Chief Minister and other dignitaries.
