Agartala, Oct 23: The Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) held a crucial Core Committee meeting on Wednesday evening at the official residence of party president Prem Kumar Reang to ratify earlier decisions and address recent political developments in the state.

The meeting reaffirmed resolutions adopted during the party’s Executive Committee and branch representatives’ gathering held on October 11 at Agartala Press Club. Addressing the media on Thursday, IPFT leaders detailed the outcomes of the meeting and announced upcoming political programs.

A major issue discussed was Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha’s controversial remark during a public rally in Bihar on October 20, where he inadvertently referred to IPFT as a “terrorist organization.” The comment, which went viral on social media, triggered strong reactions from IPFT members and supporters.

Leaders expressed deep dissatisfaction, emphasizing IPFT’s instrumental role in forming the first BJP-led government in Tripura in 2018. They reminded that IPFT is a registered and recognized political party by the Election Commission of India and demanded a clarification from the Chief Minister within 24 hours.

Before the deadline, Dr. Saha personally called IPFT president Prem Kumar Reang to express regret, clarifying that he had mistakenly mentioned IPFT instead of the banned ATTF while referring to insurgent groups. He also issued a public apology on Facebook, which the party accepted.

Following deliberations, the Core Committee decided no further protest was necessary, urging workers to maintain discipline and refrain from public comments. It also advised ministers and officials to verify facts before making public statements.

The IPFT announced that it will launch district-level Tipraland Awareness Campaigns across all eight districts on November 4. To strengthen the organization, four leaders—Sukhuranjan Debbarma, Birsadhan Jamatia, Upendra Reang, and Dipak Debbarma—were inducted as Special Invitees to the Central Executive Committee.
