New Delhi, Nov 10 — A powerful explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort Metro Station on Monday evening left at least 10 people dead and more than a dozen injured, sending shockwaves through the national capital and prompting a nationwide security alert. The blast, which tore through parked cars, triggered fires and chaos in one of the most crowded areas of Old Delhi.

Following the incident, security has been heightened across Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Mumbai, as well as at key installations including the RSS headquarters in Nagpur. Firefighters and police teams rushed to the scene, while the injured were immediately taken to LNJP Hospital for treatment.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Union Home Minister Amit Shah soon after the blast and took stock of the situation. Shah, in turn, held discussions with Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha, Intelligence Bureau Chief Tapan Deka, and NIA Director General Sadanand Vasant Date, instructing the National Investigation Agency to send a team to the site for a detailed probe.

Preliminary findings suggest that the explosion originated from one of the parked vehicles, though officials have not yet confirmed the cause. While reports circulating on social media have hinted at a possible terror link, authorities have urged restraint until forensic assessments are complete.

The blast came just hours after the Jammu and Kashmir Police announced the busting of a transnational terror module connected to Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind in Faridabad, Haryana — near Delhi — leading to the recovery of 2,900 kg of explosives, firearms, and other materials.

The back-to-back developments have raised serious security concerns in the run-up to the second phase of the Bihar Assembly elections, with agencies on high alert to prevent further incidents.
