Agartala, December 1 — Assam Rifles organised a comprehensive awareness lecture in Agartala on the occasion of World AIDS Day, reaffirming its ongoing commitment to promoting public health, social responsibility, and the overall well-being of local communities. The programme highlighted this year’s global theme, emphasising solidarity, awareness, and collective action in tackling HIV-related challenges.
The awareness session was led by medical officers of Assam Rifles, joined by Mrs. Bharti Chakraborty, Secretary of the Village Development Team, Agartala AIDS Control Society. Together, the speakers provided valuable insights into various aspects of HIV/AIDS, aiming to enhance public understanding and encourage informed, stigma-free discussions.
During the lecture, attendees were briefed on the modes of transmission of HIV, effective preventive measures, and the crucial role of early diagnosis in managing the disease. The experts also highlighted the importance of breaking long-standing myths and misconceptions surrounding HIV/AIDS, which often contribute to stigma and hinder timely treatment. The interactive nature of the session encouraged participants to ask questions, share concerns, and engage in open dialogue, thus fostering an environment of trust and awareness.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from local residents, along with troops and their families. Their active involvement reflected the strong community engagement that Assam Rifles continues to promote through its civic action initiatives. Participants expressed appreciation for the effort to raise awareness about a sensitive yet vital public health issue.
By organising such programmes, Assam Rifles once again demonstrated its dedication not only to national security but also to building informed, healthy, and socially responsible communities.
